Frequently asked questions

What size vacuum pump or shop vac do I need?

A standard shop vacuum is enough to run one puck. If you're daisy-chaining multiple pucks or want a stronger, more consistent hold over a long cut, a dedicated vacuum pump handles the larger swept area better than a shop vac.

Does it work on thin or flexible material?

Yes, as long as it can form a seal against the puck's contact face. For thin or flexible sheet stock that tends to lift at the edges, daisy-chaining two or more pucks across the piece holds it flatter than a single puck alone.

Can I use it without a spoilboard?

Yes. It works on any flat surface that can hold a vacuum seal - a spoilboard, an MDF or aluminum worktable, or a plain workbench.

What materials can I hold down with it?

Solid wood, plywood, MDF, acrylic, polycarbonate, and thin sheet metal, as long as the material is rigid enough (or flat enough) to seal against the puck.

How do I connect it to my shop vac?

The puck's ports are 5mm hose connectors. Most shop vac hoses are 1.25 to 2.5 inches, so you'll need a step-down reducer adapter to connect the two - these are common and inexpensive at any hardware store.

Can I run more than one puck off a single vacuum source?

Yes - that's what the included stoppers and extra hose connectors are for. Daisy-chain additional pucks off the open ports, and cap any ports you're not using with the included stoppers.
